Metacognitive Reading Journal 4

The novel, 1984 by George Orwell, has an interesting point of view. The view that is being represented is from the main character Winston Smith, who has felt oppressed by the government. The government is a totalitarian dictatorship which explains the impossibility of liberty. The views that are being left out is the view of the Government. Although the government may be a totalitarian dictatorship, they might have a good and reasonable reason. That is of course their version of “peace”. The party’s motto, “War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength”, explains their intentions and their mission. They view that the war and oppression they cause today is the future’s peace and liberty.
