Critical Literary Approach to Asimov's 1984 – Metacognitive Reading Journal 6

Asimov is a science fiction genre novelist who wrote many famous sci-fi books. Asimov saw 1984’s genre as a political fiction rather than scientific fiction. This is because the main point of the novel or the theme of the novel is headed more into an anti-communists view. He viewed that the oppression of freedom and rights are the “evil” way. This is because in Orwell’s background he had fought and lost against the communists. Asimov describes him as “from then on, to the end of his life, he carried on a private literary war with the communists, determined to win in words the battle he had lost in action.” Also, Orwell wrote “Animal Farm” which is also political fiction which explains his intentions toward the communist-type government and how brutal it is. Asimov was serious about this and how 1984 was barely related to science fiction. He critique that Orwell had made little changes from real world and wrote it as more of “private feud with Stalinism”. However some people may argue about this topic, and a debatable question to the readers to decide.
